What happens at YK Body Logistics? If one were to say Pilates, it would be easy to miss the range of possibilities offered at YKBL. Yoshiko Kita, “Yoshi”, the founder of YKBL, certainly uses Pilates as a major tool in her work, but it is just one of her tools. To better comprehend the scope of her work, you have to understand how Yoshi got here and how she is able to bring her skill, training, and experience to a one-on-one session to help you achieve the best body and personal life-style goals.
In her home country of Japan, Yoshi attended a specialized high school for athletes where she was a martial arts competitor throughout her high school years. Her National Championship in high school opened the door to the prestigious Nippon Sport Science University, where she continued her martial arts competition and received a Bachelors Degree in Sports Science, as well as a teaching specialty certification. Her introduction to Pilates came after an injury in her college years and started a life-long interest in the benefits of Pilates. Yoshi became a lecturer at the Baika Womens College. Subsequently, she taught Pilates programs in Tokyo and Osaka for corporations and other groups, completed two Pilates teacher-training programs and became an educator in those programs. Yoshi also founded her own studio in Osaka in 2009 where she continued her work with Olympians, professional athletes, professional dancers, and a broad spectrum of other Pilates students. Throughout her time in Japan, and until the present, Yoshi has continued to study in order to expand her ability to help her clients by attending innumerable seminars and training sessions usually reserved exclusively for those in the subject professions, such as anatomy, physical therapy, craniosacral, chiropractic, manual therapy, and other treatment modalities.
In her study and exploration she learned about Eve Gentry, known widely as a First Generation Pilates Teacher (having studied directly with Joe Pilates) and reached out from Japan to Ms. Gentry’s successor, Michele Larson, in 2012.Her contact with Michele led to years of collaboration beginning with month-long study with Michele in Santa Fe each year from 2012 to 2017 and a position as Michele’s assistant and demonstrator at national and international Pilates conferences. With Michele’s encouragement and invitation, she relocated to Santa Fe to work with Michele full-time in 2017. When Michele retired, she passed along many of her clients to Yoshi; Yoshi is one of only a handful of Pilates instructors that received a Certificate to teach Eve Gentry/Michele Larson Pilates, which she received directly from Michele.
After 15 years of professional experience in Japan and the USA, Yoshi opened YKBL in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 2017. At her studio she teaches clients only in one-on-one sessions in order to focus on each client’s specific body issues and needs. This approach allows her to tailor her teaching to the individual, applying the wide range of her knowledge and experience to address each client’s situation. Yoshi has the ability and insight to assess and evaluate each client’s physical condition, and to “know” what sort of program will result in improvement. Her clients include teenagers with scoliosis as well as clients in their 80s and 90s with all the different physical consequences from the active lives they have led. She also works with clients who are preparing for or recovering from all types of surgical procedures, including joint replacement and repairs.
If you are fortunate enough to move from her waiting list to having sessions withYoshi, you will see that she brings to her work with clients at YKBL instinctive talent, honed skills, passionate interest, and loving regard.
